So proud of these two!Congratulations to our 2021 CDCTA Award Winners!
Suzy Gehris and Steddy Eddy
Thoroughbred of the Year
Reserve Champion – Senior Training Level Eventing
Reserve Champion – Senior Modified Eventing
What a great time we had this year! Eddy really enjoys and adapts to each of the three different phases in Eventing which is the perfect sport for him – he loves the variety in the training and in the competition and comes home so happy afterwards – of course the large bag of carrots he gets helps too!"

Lisa is the best!
I am so honored to have received this reward. But my greatest joy is not about me, but is about helping others achieve their goals by teaching them to become one with their partner.
Thanks to all my students for all their unwavering belief in me and their commitment to their wonderful horses. You and your horses are my greatest joy and what I live to do everyday! 🥰Eventing Trainer of the Year -- Lisa Reid
Lisa Reid moved to Virginia at age ten and started teaching riding lessons for three dollars an hour. She walked polo ponies, mucked stalls, and did whatever else she could for the next several years in order to ride. At age 17, she took her Horse Master’s exam and received her BHSI (British Horse Society Instructor) certificate. She broke and galloped race horses after high school and rode her first race at age twenty. Three years later an opportunity opened up to travel to England and train to become a jump jockey, she took it eagerly and rode races throughout Europe for eight years. Before returning to the U.S., she received her BHSII certificate and rode to the upper levels in Eventing. Having studied under some of the Great Masters in Europe by age 35, she wanted to start giving back to the sport which had taught her so much about what true passion, commitment, and trust is truly about. By this time she knew she had an innate talent for communicating with both people and horses. So, a new career began. But she not only wanted to instruct, she also wanted to incorporate the skills she had developed over the years by bringing along young horses and taking them to the upper levels. Thus her “Horse Finding” business began. For her, what she keeps first and foremost in her heart is the integrity and honesty for the horse. It is for the sheer joy she receives that she does it. Lisa has successfully used the skills she has mastered over the years to train many students from the lower levels up to the upper levels. She has brought many up through the three-day levels, Pony Club National Championships, and the American Eventing Championships, with a number of those horses being ones which she found. But throughout all of her accomplishments, the one she is most proud of has been as a single mom raising her daughter into adulthood and watching her become a successful, honored scholar at George Mason University.

It’s been an amazing journey thus far with these two!Susan Gehris and Watch Me -- Champion, Senior Novice Eventing and Fourth, Senior First Level Dressage
Watch Me continued to live up to his name showing us his fancy dance moves and flying abilities. He is not a big horse, and always surprises people when they come close to him how little he is. He is an absolute blast to ride - always talking ! The picture CDCTA kindly put on the newsletter of me giggling is because he is Straight - I didn't care what lead we were on, or what movement we were doing - because we were Straight, and he was telling me to sit UP in that picture. Thank you Tara Jelenic for so many pictures that chronicled our improvement this year! And the XC picture GRC took at Waredaca is a jump right after the water, where he zeroed in on it before we even got to the water and just told me, “I got it, just hang on, let’s go!” He is a very hard worker and keeps our trainer Lisa Reid laughing because nothing is ever hard for him –we finished the season with a ‘best ever’ hybrid training-novice event and are looking towards training next year. We will keep working on dressage with an eye towards second level. And Watch Me will keep telling us all exactly that!

Another good day at the office! Way to go Suzy!
Are you going to be at the Morven Horse Trials this weekend? I hope to see you there!
I'll also be doing the Cross Country Schooling the following Tuesday and can take on additional riders looking to improve their XC chops!Morven Park #HorseTrials are this Saturday & Sunday and here's what you need to know:
--This year marks the 46th year of Horse Trials at the Morven Park International Equestrian Center.
--Horse Trials is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the sport of "eventing" as well as Morven Park’s picturesque 1,000 acres on a beautiful spring day. “Eventing" is the triathlon of horse sports, featuring dressage, show jump and cross-country.
--Competition will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and starting times will be posted on Thursday at MorvenPark.org/HorseTrials . The Park Café will be open for competitors and spectators to grab a cup of coffee, a brisket sandwich, and the always popular “Frickles” appetizer.
--We can ALWAYS use more volunteers! No experience necessary and lunch/snacks/fun provided. To register, go to www.eventingvolunteers.com/events/826/signup or email volunteer@morvenpark.org for more information.

CONGRATULATIONS to Suzy Gehris on winning our 2018 USEA MDHT Recognized Award Series. She is coached by Lisa Reid. Awesome job!!!
"I am proud and honored to be recognized by the crew at Loch Moy. Without having Loch Moy as a place to learn and grow, we would never be where we are today. What a great 'break out' type of year for Eddy and I !! It all started last December at MDHT's Christmas Derby Cross where we donned Christmas garb and seriously attacked the course mixed with stadium and cross country obstacles. It was the first time our former race horse, who raced 20 times, leaned into the bridle asking me which jump was next, and was clearly disappointed that the last fence was the last. After MDHT's spring starter horse trials, we knew we were ready for the recognized ones. Taking advantage of MDHT's back to back horse trials in July, we moved from Beginner Novice to a tough Novice course, and finished with an even tougher course in October. Eddy has fallen in love with eventing, loves the primping for dressage, and has become a beast on XC. And he continues to insist he is with 'his people' all day, very much like a puppy. Our biggest accomplishment has been to gallop the 'eventing way' not the 'race track' way. In 2019, we will continue to refine our technique and see where it takes us - I can say sitting in him makes the jumps look small - look out Training and Prelim!"
